Dealer shoes |
|
Dealer shoes are used to hold several decks of playing cards securely, to help prevent cards from being shown went dealt to players. Most commonly used when playing blackjack, dealer shoes can hold up to a maximum of eight decks of playing cards at a time. This enables long periods of playing time without having to reshuffle cards, and also makes it much harder for players trying to count cards.
Casinos generally use dealer shoes made from clear or black acrylic due to its strength and fashionable look. |

In home games, many different styles of dealer shoes are used depending on the buyers taste. Wooden, plastic and acrylic are the main three types. Wooden and acrylic are best to use due to the fact that they weigh slightly more than plastic ones. This eliminates the chance of knocking the card shoe on its side. |

How to use a dealer shoe
Once you have shuffled your playing cards, place them into your dealer shoe. Using your index finger and middle finger, press gently down onto the top playing card and slide it to towards the intended player. If your playing blackjack, before the card reaches the player, slide your index and middle fingers on top of your thumb, and turn the card over. This can be trickier than it sounds, but with practise will become easier. |
