Now then!

How did last night go? Bad beat, bad beat, bad beat! I somehow managed to reduce the bank to $454.25 lol. Unbelievable! Ahh well, easy come easy go! I’m probably not going to play tonight, if I do it’ll most likely just been in a little torny. Give my luck a little time to recoup :). Catch you later!

Now then!

Well I wasn’t expecting to play last night as I knew I’d knock a few back while watching the England game. Despite this, while I stumbled home I managed to come to the half cut conclusion that I may not have my balance but I am still in the right mind to play poker. A decision that may live to haunt me if I wasn’t careful. Not that I was worried after my 8 or so pints of amber nectar.

I joined four $0.25/$0.50 NL hold’em cash games and took $35 into each. 30 minutes in I was dealt 6h7h on the button. The guy acting before me raised to $1.50 and I called (both blinds folded). Three hearts hit the flop so I was happy as Larry. My opponent raises and I just smooth call. An irrelevant comes on the turn, and my opponent raises into me again. This time I re-raise all in. My opponent quickly calls and turns over 8h9h.

Five minutes later I get dealt KhKc. I raised it up and got two callers. The flop hits Ac 8c 2c. I wasn’t happy to see an ace but had the nut flush draw so raised into my two opponents. One calls and one folds. The turns comes 9h. I fire another bullet and once again get called. River card is 4h. We both check and my opponent turns over As 5h.

I carried on for about another half hour. With the use of some well timed aggression and some decent hands I managed to break a profit of $68.52. At this point the room began to spin slightly so I thought that I better end the session there and then.

Profit/Loss on the day: $68.52

Increased bank by: 9%

Total bank: $825.22

I’ll next be playing on Monday night, and since my bank has increased slightly will be trying out some $0.50/$1 cash games. Fingers crossed that all goes well. Catch you later!

Now then!

Well it was Friday 13th, and teamed with the fact that we were getting a window replaced upstairs so I had to walk under a ladder to get into the house, I was not feeling very confident! Despite this I was still eager to get going. I joined four $0.25/$0.50 cash tables, taking $30 into each. About half an hour into the session I picked up pocket aces. Now I don’t know about you but I’m not particularly a big fan of pocket bullets. They always either seem to win me a small pot or lose me a large one. Anyway I ended up all in pre flop with them against an opponent with JJ. Most people would fancy their chances at this point, but after walking under a ladder and it being Friday 13th I expected nothing less than to get turned over. Alas a jack hits the flop and I lose my entire stack.

Quarter of an hour on I picked up KcQc on the button. The table folded around to me, and I raised to $1.75.The small blind folds and the big blind calls. Flop comes: 2c 5c Qs. Raise after raise we both end up all in. My opponent turns over Ac 7c. Any guesses as to what happens next?  You got it; another club hits the board followed by another just to rub it in.

After several sentences containing around 90% profanities and bouncing a deck of Bicycles off the wall I got back to work. I plodding on and on for what seemed like eternity just looking for that light at the end of the tunnel. Finally it came when I was dealt big slick (AK) on the button, and I hit an ace and a king on the flop. Some lunatic chucked all in trying to draw to a flush with his 4s 2s which he thankfully didn’t make.

Profit/Loss on the day: $79.95

Increased bank by: 11.81%

Total bank: $756.70

I don’t think I’ll get the chance to play tonight, but you never know! Have a good weekend and I’ll catch you soon!

Now then!

The pursuit to become a professional poker continues! After reaching a profit even after the hard grind last night I was feeling confident as ever. With my first hand of the night being KQ, and the flop hitting KKQ my confidence boosted even more! I was relaxed, playing aggressively and was ready for a good night. At this point you’re probably expecting me to say that I hit a bad beat, or bad run of cards. Guess what? No bad beats, no bad run of cards, just smooth playing all the way baby! Do I dare say it; yes I do – too easy! Give me something harder next time!

Profit/Loss on the day: $73.65

Increased bank by: 12.2%

Total bank: $676.75

I’m feeling good and ready for more! Unfortunately I can’t play tonight, but will certainly be playing on Friday night, so will follow up on Saturday with the result. Have a good night, and catch you on Saturday.

Now then!

After the first nights play I couldn’t wait to get back on the tables. I used the same tactic as yesterday and jumped straight into two $0.25/$0.50 cash games with $25 in each. All was going well. I was winning in both tables, I was feeling confident, and then I was dealt Kd Kc on the button. This is how the hand went:

Dealt to PokerSetsUK [  Kd Kc ]
Kacheli folds
Kemphala folds
allstars1988 folds
Grinya1982 folds
sio61 raises [$2 USD]
PokerSetsUK calls [$2 USD]
O_minemaus_O folds
PUNlSHERR folds

** Dealing Flop ** [ 3d, 4s, 7s ]

sio61 bets [$3 USD]
PokerSetsUK raises [$6 USD]
sio61 calls [$3 USD]

** Dealing Turn ** [ Jd ]

sio61 checks
PokerSetsUK bets [$10 USD]
sio61 raises [$25 USD]
PokerSetsUK is all-In  [$40.09 USD]
sio61 calls [$25.09 USD]

** Dealing River ** [ Jc ]

sio61 shows [ 8s, Js ]three of a kind, Jacks.

PokerSetsUK shows [ Kd, Kc ]two pairs, Kings and Jacks.

sio61 wins $113.93 USD from the main pot with three of a kind, Jacks.

As you can see it didn’t exactly go to plan. This knocked my confidence a little, but I topped back up with another $25 and got back to work. I was dealt KK again shortly after when a short stack pushed all for $13.26. He showed AQ off suit, and an ace hit the board as it always does when you’ve got kings :). I topped up once again and plodded on. I then took another hit when I was dealt 10 10 and a guiser with 44 flopped a set. At this point I was feeling a little miserable and just wanted to finish the day even. An hour and a half later with things going a little more my way, I had gone beyond even and finished the night winning $43.29. It was a hell of a fight but I got there in the end! This is how the bank looks now:

Profit/Loss on the day: $43.29

Increased bank by: 7.7%

Total bank: $603.10

I’m going to start my nights play now, so I’ll report back tomorrow with the result. Fingers crossed for the 3rd winning day in a row. Cya tomorrow!

Now then!

Well there I was staring at the PartyPoker lobby looking for a table to join, glancing at the average pot sizes and percentage of players to see the flop. I was breathing heavily, my heart was throbbing, and it was only then that it all of a sudden hit me. What if this is the moment I’ve been waiting for? What if all the live and online poker games I’ve played, all the casinos I’ve been to, all the tournaments and  cash games I’ve seen on TV, all the books I’ve read, have led me to this moment? Is this the chance that every poker enthusiast dreams of, but very few seem to get? Honestly, I don’t know, but I sure as hell want to find out!

I quickly dived into a $0.25/$0.50 NL Hold’em cash game with $25, and then another, and started grinding. I wasn’t really sure what to expect to be honest. I didn’t know if I’d be coming up against vast amounts of multi-tablers, casual poker players, experienced poker players, I really didn’t have a clue.  So because of this, I started off the night playing quite tightly, only entering pots with premium hands, and then slowly loosened up as I became more familiar with the type of play. What I did expect were a lot of ups and downs and crippling bad beats. To my amazement it actually went relatively smoothly with no nasty beats. I’m sure that this won’t last though! Despite the slow start, I managed to make a profit of $59.81 on the night. A profit that I’m extremely happy with! Hopefully there’s lots more to come. I’ll be playing again tonight, so I’ll report back tomorrow on the nights play. Catch you tomorrow!

Profit/Loss: $59.81

Increased bank by: 11.96%

Total bank: $559.81

By: Dean Clamp - 9th November 2009

Last night after half a dozen or so pints of wife beater I got chin with some fellow poker enthusiasts about playing poker, and about how good it would be to become a poker pro. About 10 minutes into the conversion I decided to voice my haphazard half cut opinion with the group by bellowing “Well how hard can it be?”  So being the stubborn simpleton that I am and refusing to take back the comment, I agreed to put my money where my mouth is and put $500 into my PartyPoker account. The plan being to try and increase my original deposit of $500 to $20,000. Apparently at the time of making this agreement I appeared rather confident, but now sober however my confidence has somewhat diminished. I’ll start my first session tonight going by the name of “PokerSetsUK”, so will report back tomorrow on how my first days play went. Fingers crossed for a good starting day!
